Massage styles used in treatments:

Maya Abdominal Massage

Based on traditional Maya healing techniques, this massage style is world-famous for its ability to help women get pregnant as well resolving chronic digestive issues. The techniques were developed to restore the body to its natural balance by correcting the position of organs that have shifted and restrict the flow of blood, lymph, nerve & Qi energy.

Shiatsu

Shiatsu originates from Japan and the name translates into “finger pressure”.  It is designed to relaxing the central nervous system. In today’s society the sympathetic nervous system “fight or flight” is often overstimulated with stress from work and pressure to be constantly productive. Taking one’s time and slowing down seems to almost be culturally frowned upon and is only allowed to take place a few times a year on vacation. In Shiatsu the parasympathetic nervous system “rest and digest” is activated finally allowing the patient to release tension in the body and relax.  One falls into a trance-like state of complete relaxation. They may feel somewhere in between an awakened and an asleep state. It is also easy to completely fall asleep during the massage.  The heart rate is slowed, worries drift away, digestion is stimulated, and the muscles protecting to body unwind.  Pain is decreased as a result. Other than body pain Shiatsu can be very helpful in treating headaches, sleep issues, digestive issues, cardiovascular health, sexual dysfunctions, and psycho/emotional issues.

Tui Na

Tui Na is a TCM medical massage that is designed to move Qi and blood. The name Tui Na translates into “push-pull”. When one experiences Tui Na, a lot of shaking of the body, muscles, and joints are involved. This massage style is not meant to be a relaxing one, which has a more proactive approach.  The pressure can get strong and intends to get into the body structures and work out the tension. The experience is quite vigorous and at times hypnotic. The body is put into a sort of trance-like state and is rocked into releasing and relaxing areas of tightness. Qi and blood become unblocked and are able to flow, which increases circulation and range of motion. Scar tissue and adhesions soften and break up.  Joints get stretched, unlock, and open up. With all of this newly found mobility, pain decreases making Tui Na useful for both acute and chronic conditions. Tui Na is used and helping in treating joint diseases, frozen shoulder, arthritis, trigger thumb/finger, tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, lockjaw, whiplash, upper cross syndrome, kyphosis, scoliosis, lordosis, sciatica, and various other body ailments.
